Mr Butters said, "Except the people we are supposed to dole out 700 billion to. They deserve to be rich, because they are so smart. After all, they were able to drive an economy into the dirt with great skill. Bravo, smart guys. Jack-ass. "

You're partially correct, though you are being sarcastic. Those people that got the $700 B bail-out are from the same organizations as many of the political advisers to both Obama and McCain. Obama won, but in his camp he has a lot of Goldman Sachs/Federal Reserve/Freddie Mac/Clinton boys. Obama sure was quick to endorse the bail-out for being a man of such change and "no ties to the Washington establishment".

I guess they are smart - smart enough to have both political parties in their back pocket and handing them cash right in the open! Who would have thought a President Obama, the demi-god of America and Robin' Hoods best friend, a man who hates the rich establishment, would vote in favour of giving bankers so much money without any oversight or repercussions? I'd say they are pretty damn smart - or else someone else that they are fooling is just really dumb?

If you would have told me the American people would vote overwhelmingly in favour of a President that votes in favour of handing out massive amounts of money to rich bankers, I'd have thought you were telling a joke. But then again, both McCain and Obama were in favour of it. Some choice you had - But hey, it's a democracy, right? Isn't it? They said it was in school! We get to choose party A or party B.

America already is poor... It has no cash and mounting debts. Go ask the leading accountant of the US government, David Walker. And politicians promise even more spending and just say, "the rich will pay for it" as if the rich are some unlimited bank America can tap to buy anything and everything... In the future, with poor tax policies, many international companies may decide against having their headquarters in the US and many productive and rich families may move to more productive and tax friendly nations where wealth building is a little easier. But back to the debt... The US was rich at one time, but now it is far from it and they have no one to blame but themselves for allowing for, and voting in, politicians that spend beyond the governments ability tax. The average American is guilty of the same "spend beyond your means" mantra the government is. Financial 101 was never taught in schools though it's a major part of life.

America will be paying for it's spending in many ways: inflation, devaluation of the dollar, increased spending on interest payments, increased taxes, opportunity costs, less new job creation by the rich due to more of their money going to taxes rather than business ventures, etc, etc. America has a new name: I.O.U.S.A. (BTW, that's an actual documentary, not just a cool slogan - they have a free 30 minute version on their official site or you can find a link here: http://www.nabloid.com/iousa-30-minute-version/)

I strongly believe that the Republicans have become liberalized and the Democrats are REALLY liberal and headed toward partial socialism on some topics (like healthcare), not on all topics though...

The "conservative" Republicans enlarged government and spent more money than has ever been done, and then gave some tax cuts so they could tell people they were still conservative... GO look up conservative in the dictionary - a conservative would NEVER want a tax cut when the government isn't even balancing it's budget - and no, you can't grow your way to balanced budgets when you're this far off. A true conservative would never want to increase spending so quickly without any thought of "what can we afford?" Why is there no real conservative party, the type of party that would not raise OR lower taxes until the government has cleaned house and balanced the budget? Oh, probably because they would tell the cold hard truth about finances and people don't want to hear it. You can't buy it if you can't afford it. People would rather hear a politician promising to spend, and they will get exactly that.

I'd like to add, some regulation can be good and some can be bad - though most turn out to be bad. Regulations that forced banks to give out sub-prime loans to those that couldn't afford them actually helped get us into this mess! Yup, poorly designed regulation got us to where we are in this current financial collapse!!!!!! People blindly scream for more regulation and blame lack of it for all their problems, when they should realize not all regulation is good and poorly designed regulation can be a huge problem. That said, some regulation can be good! One piece of regulation I agree with is something to prevent people from taking on more debt than they can afford. I think that's actually conservative... I hate most other types of regulation...

The use of cheap debts combined with inflation have been hiding America's true problem: It is no longer economically sustainable and hasn't been for a while - they've been hiding the problems for a while now... In the end, the middle class is still slowly eroding from inflation (and I'm talking about REAL inflation, not the inflation numbers they officially give us). One working parent was all that was needed in the 1950's. Now we need two - and we need to use our house like an ATM and withdraw some of the "equity" to pay for things... and our 12 credit cards are maxed out. It's ridiculous.

The author of this article said it a bit harshly, but in a Democracy, you do get what you deserve and you get what you vote for. America doesn't care about finances - Americans just want their cake and don't really care who pays for it.

It's sooo true, freakin' sheep! He's a man. Judge the man by his deeds! He's already a demi-god and hasn't done anything except read some awesome speeches off a teleprompter... Yes, he is charismatic and yes he made history because he is black and now the president, but he's still just a man... Racism has gone too far, this time in a different direction, LOL, but it's still racism. He's black, so he must be good. LMFAO.

This was one of the most racist elections in history if you check the exit polls (maybe not as much racism amongst many whites as there once was - though some are racist against themselves now the way society has gone plus you still have some of those racist hicks, but all in all, I'd argue that racism is higher in percentage terms amongst non-whites). Honestly, I don't think there have ever been so many tears on election night, ever. I get the history aspect and how it has shown doors are now open to all regardless of color, as actual proof, not just in concept. To get past racism, we must judge men by their deeds, not just their words, regardless of skin color. I'd vote for the best man, period, and I didn't like McCain or Obama based on what they would do... Spend, spend, spend. Save us, Mr. President, save us! LMFAO. More bail-outs. More spending. None of that works well when we don't have the money to begin with.

He might be good or he might be bad as a President, we don't know yet, because he hasn't done anything or even become President yet. Why not wait before you lavish so much praise on him? It's sickening. I wonder, does Democracy work well when the population is sheepish and all to easily lead in any direction by speeches that evoke feelings and emotion?

Obama's advisers are largely from Clinton's administration or from the banking industry (like the Federal Reserve, Freddie Mac, Goldman Sachs, etc). Also, Obama was VERY quick to be in favour of the Wall Street Bail-Out. So I must ask, where is the dramatic change in the way government is run? Ron Paul would have enacted massive change - too bad he wasn't black, and I mean that with all sincerity, because I think he would have had a better chance at having his message heard in the media.

Any man with this much power and sway over people is dangerous. Judge the man by his deeds. Honestly, study it from afar, and you come to realize this is how men like Hitler did gain power. I don't think Obama is the anti-christ or inherently bad, but now I truly understand how such men do gain power in a Democracy.

I've even said the way he blames the rich for all of societies problems is class warfare... If I remember correctly, Hitler blamed a certain group of rich businessmen...

all I have to say is MULTI-TRILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT. I dont seem to remember there being a deficit when Clinton was in office. What happened between then and now? And why would you reelect the same party that has gotten America into such a mess.

It makes absolutely no sense. you are scum.

I just wonder what Fox News and conservative bloggers would say if Barack had a 17-year-old pregnant daughter... Do you think Bill O'Reilly would go on the record saying it's a personal choice and applauding her for not having an abortion?

And, I'm sorry, if Palin wants to use her military son and special needs baby as proof that she's go what it takes, her knocked-up daughter is fair game. I don't think personal attacks on her or the Palin family are warranted (as Rush Limbaugh's attacks on a 12-year-old Chelsea Clinton were odious yet guffawed at by right-wingers). But she is most definitely a symbol of failed Republican policy.

People really need to get over the whole "liberal media" bullshit. Reporting facts is not showing bias. Did CNN fail to mention anything about William Ayers? Why not search for William Ayers CNN on Youtube? Does that mean they were showing a conservative bias or are conservatives just so brainwashed into believing the fallacy of liberal bias that anything short of the anchor wearing a McCain/Palin button is seen as favoring the left?

Oh, and somebody said Obama was mostly white...you try walking around with his skin color and tell people you're white.

Funny that you should mention Clarence Thomas in your post. You are probably too young to remember Thomas' nomination. He was nominated to replace the very highly regarded Thurgood Marshall. Thomas was nominated to the Supreme Court after just 2 years as a Washington, DC Court of Appeals justice. The argument against Thomas was not that he was the "wrong kind of black" as you imply, but that there were certainly more qualified justices to fill the vacancy. President Bush merely picked a Black Conservative to take the place of Marshall just like McCain chose Sarah Palin to woo supporters of Hillary Clinton.
